For more pictures of summer attire, feel free to check out the website of Kimono de Jack: http://www.kimonojack.com/. This is an actual kimono-gathering group in Kyoto that has quickly spread throughout the nation with groups starting in Tokyo, Fukuoka, and other major cities. A couple kimono friends of ours, Ichiro-san and Yuka-san of Osaka, are among the founding members!

Please welcome the esteemed author of “Geisha”, “Kimono: Fashioning Culture”, and my current read, “Tale of Murasaki”, as well as her latest literature, “Hidden Bhuddas”, it is my pleasure to give our listening audience a preview of the long-awaited interview of famed anthropologist Liza Dalby, PhD. Because of the extensive length of the interview, today we will focus on how she got started in her interests in Japan, and being that it is the end of August, it seems only fitting to talk about how it all started with one yukata...

On the next Podcast, Liza Dalby describes her time working in Pontocho as a jikata (or musician) geisha, and the difference between the Kyoto vs. Tokyo Geisha.
